Nick Mackman is a sculptor of one-off clay animal sculptures. She has been widely exhibited across both the UK and abroad, and in 2012 was the overall runner-up in the 'Wildlife Artist of the Year' competition. Her animals have found homes with the like of John Cleese, Judi Dench, Chris Packham, David Shepherd and Viscountess Serena Linley.
Nick's aim is to get under the skin of the animals she sculpts, giving each piece a personality of its own - a feat she seems to effortlessly achieve time and time again. Many of her subjects are highly endangered and, in depicting them, she seeks to enlighten us to their beauty, humour and tenderness. This particular piece is based on a baby African elephant Nick observed during a trip to Zambia, and depicts it playfully discovering the wonders of its own trunk.
Size: 55cm (length).
