Ed Wilson was brought up in St Ives, Cornwall and the influence of the lines and movement of the coast are evident in his work.
He worked as an apprentice to Timothy Lukes, who makes traditional silver sculptures for clients including Asprey’s of Bond Street. For five years Ed worked on grand statues of pheasants, stags and other traditional designs. But in that time he was also given space to develop his own style. He learnt skills like wax carving, casting and silversmithing all the while honing in his natural design abilities.
Now Ed runs his own studio and gallery in the heart of St Ives. His is a contemporary, simple design with an emphasis on form and movement, therein the influence of the sea and cliffs, the refraction of light and textures to be found there. Each item is lovingly and painstakingly created with keen instinct. Ed has a knack of knowing exactly what a client is looking for and he can sum someone up through his work, all the while injecting his own creativity. Each piece truly is individual.
Ed’s stunning engagement, wedding and eternity rings are sought after for their simple elegance and personal touch. Working with 18ct gold, platinum, rare palladium and precious gemstones each piece is individually handcrafted in his St Ives workshop.
Ed’s speciality is also ‘up-cycling’ jewellery, giving family heirlooms a contemporary twist, re-working engagement and wedding rings and giving diamonds and gemstones new life. He treats each item with sensitivity; understanding and respecting any story and meaning they hold for their owner.During an initial appointment Ed will ascertain what a client is looking for by chatting over and looking at different designs, drawing on his extensive knowledge and passion for his craft, as well as showing examples of his and other jewellers’ work in the gallery. His work is concerned with the detail, its intricacies and clean lines demonstrating his skill and craftsmanship. Ed’s ability to interject personality and interweave his own style with the vision and wishes of his clients result in treasured possessions no-one else could own or create.
