Inspired by the architecture and rich history of Havana, Cuba, this cocktail cabinet was designed as a response to the contradiction between traditional colonial buildings and the Soviet inspired modernist blocks seen throughout the city (see also the companion piece Havana Vieja storage cabinet). This particular cabinet is based on a multi-storey apartment block built after the Castro revolution, and although down at heel and in need of restoration, the building displays great beauty in the patterns created by its pink and rose coloured balconies and strong window frames placed on alternate floors.
This entire cabinet is constructed from solid maple wood with decorative pressure stained veneers. The upper cabinet has space to store glasses and bottles, complete with a glass topped drinks preparation ‘drawer’ located in the centre. Lower down there are three hand-cut dovetail drawers, and the lower cabinet is designed as a storage area with two adjustable wooden shelves.
