Part of a limited edition of only 200, the Blott Works 'Crane' lamp pays homage to two delights of the Great British skyline: the towering, load-lifting structures that help us create our man-made landscape, and the beautiful, iconic prehistoric bird currently being reintroduced to our landscape after 400 years of absence.
Designed to be equally comfortable sitting on a desk providing light to read and work by, this lamp also serves as a superb piece of visual design, illuminating either itself or other nearby items or surfaces. The 'beak' of the lamp acts as an integrated lamp-shade, with light emitting from its lower surface. This versatile shade can rotate to direct light either onto the lamp itself, when in the 'tucked-up' position, onto a desk or table when in the horizontal position, or can be used to illuminate a more distant object when fully rotated outwards.
This lamp is formed from two semi-circular girder sections, the rear static portion being slightly wider to allow the front portion, which carries the lamp and 'beak' shade, to neatly fold away. It is switched on using the push button switch at the front of the base. The brass knobs on the side of the girder are used to slide the front section in and out, and the white spheres ('eyes') allow the user to manually adjust the tension of the 'beak' shade so that it's position can be precisely set. The neck extends 25cm (80 degrees rotation) from fully retracted to fully extended, and the beak light has 190 degrees of rotation allowing for many different configurations.
Size: 57 cm tall x 15 cm wide (base), with a maximum reach of 82 cm from back to front.
Power: 240V 50Hz mains powered, GU9 LED bulb.
Materials: Hard-anodised aluminium structure, milled aluminium billet shade, and a rough-cast concrete base. All with brass, resin, and stainless steel fittings.
