Constructed from a combination of sycamore, carbon fibre, glass, and copper, the complex technique Marc and his studio have developed to make this table involves the difficult task of creating a double compound curved solid wood item. A laborious technique first perfected and used in the 'Nautilus' series of works.
Marc’s journey exploring the Victorian obsession with natural history continues here. The often macabre display of anything dead and sometimes living in the form of freak shows was a true Victorian pastime. Mollusque is an oversized representation of displayed artifacts, it would have been held in wonderment and fascination with all who viewed. Marc’s work has become timeless, it is almost impossible to date his work or allocate a key influence, even mixing elements of fictional eras. His work could however be described as mixing the visual depth, richness and romanticism of Dickensian London, with the futurism of Jules Verne.
