Mechagarden 1 & 2 depict the uncontrolled encroachment of technology and industry over the British countryside. Even though the machine has no specific purpose the inventor still looks on with a false sense of pride, under the impression that his invention will be for the benefit of mankind and earn him fame and fortune. The little girl in the foreground is incredulous to the machine, observing with disinterest the irrelevance of it all.
