This is a painting of Brigid's youngest son asking his fortune. The four elements are there; air represented by a woman (fate) holding a sword, which cleaves through the air. The second woman represents mercy. She holds a goblet of water and a world wheel. Earth is represented by the gold coins dug from the Earth, which are flowing into the boy’s hands, yet he does not grasp them greedily. He has two choices before him; the way that leads to the Celestial city (the New Jerusalem) or the path leading to destruction, shown by fire. The burning buildings -so like the twin towers, were painted long before that event. But artists often can be prophetic in their painting - Brigid Marlin

Size: 5ft diameter

Medium: Mische technique (egg tempera and oils) on canvas
