Jan Lewin-Cadogan's work is very much influenced by the beautiful flowing scenery around her in the stunning valleys of West Wales and her close embrace of nature pours through each exquisite piece that she lovingly crafts. Jan's latest work includes creating stoneware thrown vessels in an array of different forms. As well as working with modern methods within her ceramic creations, Jan also has studied various traditional ways of working such as coiling and pinching to bring a delightful mix of contemporary and customary together.
Jan lives in picturesque Carmarthenshire where her walks through the countryside, dramatic coastal routes facing the tempestuous waters below and charming beaches give her a great deal of exciting inspiration for her work and fuel her imagination. Having achieved a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Ceramics at West Wales School of the Arts in Carmarthen, Jan’s work has gone from strength to strength and her thrown stoneware and earthenware one off pieces are highly sought after. Jan also works with Volcanic, Haresfur and barium glazes; layering within her variety of ceramics to produce fine works that perfectly capture the spirit and fervour she has for the natural world around her.
Jan’s artworks are filled with life and the almost palpable character of each piece makes them simply irresistible. Merging the wonderful shades of nature together to bring forth gradual colour and form to her vessels, earthenware teabowls and stoneware bottles among many other excellent works; Jan’s eye for detail and texture is truly outstanding.
