Joseph’s passion for sculpture and working in 3D led him to take up an apprenticeship in stone masonry. Studying the craft at York College to an advanced level, he became skilled in many aspects of the job including, setting out, carving and fixing.
Joe opened his own studio and gallery in 2012, located in the picturesque town of Pateley Bridge North Yorkshire. From here, his stone sculpture is carved with such talent, using many different stone types, including local York-stone, limestone and marble, taking his inspiration from both nature and the human form.
Joe not only works in stone but also models in clay which is then moulded and cast into timeless limited edition bronze sculpture using the ancient ‘lost wax’ method.
Joseph will soon be proudly undertaking a large public art project for Pateley Bridge as part of the Sustrans ‘Way Of The Roses’ coast to coast sculpture trail. This will comprise of three life size figures emerging from rough sandstone pillars, an installation which will reflect the area’s rich history.
Joe still uses his masonry skills to design and create wonderful bespoke stone work including hand carved fireplaces that can be tailored to meet the client’s needs. Joe loves to bring clients ideas to life be it in bronze or stone.
