From his workshop in the heart of the lake district national park, Luke designs and builds one-off and small run items utilising the beauty of local timber wherever possible. Luke’s work and designs are influenced by the world and experiences around him and are not deliberately of a certain era or movement of design. Although the clean shapes and proportions of art-deco often kindle the initial concept.
“I try to combine at least two timber species into a piece of furniture; it gives huge depth and contrast to a piece without being over bearing on the design. I have recently developed the use of coloured flock into my work, it allows me to add vibrant colour next to a natural wood without there being a clash and loss of high end feel. It also adds another tactile texture to a piece.”
"What an amazing surprise the table was for my Birthday. The design was awesome, just the right height and size. I can't get over your use of the two types of wood, which meld as if they are the same piece of wood. Every attention was paid to the detail, from the edge to the wonderful legs. It looks spectacular and everyone comments on it's uniqueness. Thank you so much. I look forward to having some more pieces from you in the future." Sir Jan Dalrymple-White
