Malin Winberg grew up in Finland and moved to the UK in 2001, then moved to Glasgow in 2006 to gain formal training at the Glasgow School of Art, from where she graduated in 2010. It was during her final year in Art school that her interest in the Finnish folklore epic the Kalevala grew. The stories and characters combined with images, textures and lines found in the Finnish and Scottish woodlands still inspire her work to this day. Malin uses a lot of traditional techniques such as raising and forging in her work, believing it best suits her overall ethos as maker.
