This photograph is from John's latest portfolio of work and involved him experimenting with out or the ordinary print surfaces, he was stunned at how interesting his images looked when printed on aluminium.
They take on an added luminescence, darker colours appear richer and more vibrant, whilst lighter colours inherit the more subtle properties of the metal's surface. Overall this process creates a somewhat three-dimensional effect which is particularly effective when viewed in natural light.
Old trains. Quiet now, resting in rail yards and museums. Cold to the touch. But still, very intimidating to stand beside, feeling dwarfed by the sheer size and shape of these old steam giants.
Can you imagine how exciting and terrifying it would have been to stand that close to them when they were ‘alive’, full of steam, noise, energy and power.
"The great 6755, as it might have thundered down the tracks in it’s glory days". John Drennan.
